Me & jack (Part 3)

I had a bath… I ate a rat…It was quite a day

Jack has a thing about being clean – takes two showers a day – expects me to take one once or twice a month – ya’ gotta be kidding me!. I can hear a bath coming a mile away – and I head for the hills – But Jack isn’t as dumb as he looks – he locked all the escape hatches & I was done for. So we took it to the mat. We wrestled it out & he won – barely – but I wore him out – taught him a lesson, I’ll be quicker next time.

And then there was the rat. Don’t know what the big deal was. I found the rat – dead & half decomposed. I just got the backbone out & he came freakin’out & took it away – helluva nerve. ( I gotta start my own stash.). Don’t know what he has against rats. Such a wuss.

So baths & rats – these are the things that try a dog’s soul – yes we have them - but sooner or later I will have him trained – you can bet on it!

Me & Jack (Part 2)

Well I've been here 3 weeks- looks like I'm staying- and have things just about under control:got the couch, got the bed , got the Throne (previously Jack's chair) - got the lap  - & all is well.

Ive taken on the job of protector - gotta keep those 2 Pit Bulls in line next door,, guard against intruders (Jack calls them guests - whatever - they're intruding on my turf is all I know) - and of course I gotta protect Jack & the throne

Jack's son brought his dog Illy for a visit. We had to stake out territories right away. She got near the throne - i took over- leaped from couch, squared off & mad-dogged the intruder intensely. When feeding time came - Illy ate a little & i ate the rest (ya snooze - you lose). Jack said i was rude - I said "o Jack u wuss - it's a dog  eat dog world - Jack said i was just an appetizer for the 2 Pitts next door and then "Who said I have to act like a dog" I said, "Congress" & then we argued politics until we both got a "Russian Concussion".

Later that night I tweeted to  Illy, "I'm sorry for being rude & greedy. Please come again & we'll give the Pit Bulls hell" Illy twittered back, "Please come visit me in SF". Jack got tears. Damn wuss.

Diffusions of Innovations

Things are happening in The Wheel - Wind & Fire kinds of things -- No PR No Pc +No BS kinds of Things - It's alive & it is electric

Mr Tuan Peng & Dr Tom Bell are the catalysts of our discussions on Diffusions of Innovations https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffusion_of_innovations  in dialog with the Hebrew Prophets -currently Isaiah- as we ask the essential Q: Why? in an Apple-like fashion vs an IBM approach

We launch from sh'ma (Hear o Israel-Church...Love God, Love neighbor) and allow it to be enfleshed in our life together- Something is unique about us - besides laughing too much & eating too much pizza (see Pastor's side profile). We "Early Adopters" seem to be actually loving God & each other - causing those hungry for authentic to come check it out - for God really does seem to be up to something in our very midst.

We can't sing or use hi tech or even make a group circle- but we are hungry to know God & His Word- to love & serve His people - We're just  bunch of religious ragamuffins refusing to play church but rather be Church - seeking God's Kingdom first, being led by Captain Jesus, - we hoist our sails waiting for Spirit-Wind to take us to uncharted territories. You are always welcome aboard. Currently docking at The Hope (Pennsylvania & 255th, Lomita on Tuesdays at 7pm and Sundays at Hesse Park in Palos Verdes at 10:30am

Me & Jack

Hi I'm Marley - just rolled into town. Some bald fat guy  I call him Jack) filled out papers, put up cash & waited a long time for me. See I was part of a family but they had another kid & no time for me so they "returned" me -like I was an unwanted toaster. Jack bought me back - don't know why- i can be a pain in the ass - he says its a "God thing" - says he's a pain in the caboose but God rescued him & wants him - lots of God stuff around here - guess I can live with it. But then there's the jazz crap he plays - have you ever listened to that non-sense? Well I get even - i steal his underwear & bring it out to the living room for all to see - he gets embarrassed (get it? bare assed) serves him right - all that jazz. And i got this word stuff from him. He plays with words like toys - puts them in stories - tells them, writes them, sells them.

His friends all say I remind them of Benji - some super star dog i hear he had - I can't possibly live up to those standards - I'd rather steal underwear - lick him on his face when he plays the jazz stuff. So annoying, but I can put up with it  while I guess. I mean who else would want me & feed me & play with me & let me sit on his lap while he does the word stuff? hmmm oh yeah I know who - same One who made me & Jack (hint for slow hounds: DOG spelled backward).

Well I'l be reporting in from time to time & I'll let u know what this crazy bastard is up to - he's got some real LuLus  ready to hatch soon. So stay tuned. I m gonna go sleep now - in his bed of course - where else - I own this place!

Another Venture

37 years of friendship & adventures - and still it goes on..

Kyle Northway - The best man i know - gentle & kind,, curious & creative, thoughtfully sacrificial - my friend (an honor to say so).- Definitely a Q-bean (see Blog)

We've been on many adventures together - and we've dreamed Kingdom dreams & done Kingdom schemes - so much so our church once said we couldn't go on adventures any more together because we always came back with some crazy idea to drag people into. Well many years later & still it goes on..

This time we decided to explore our own back yard (LA) by train Recently we took the Metro from Long Beach to Downtown - Coming in the back side it was hard to get our bearings - until we stumbled on The Pantry then all things became clear (our North Star) Of course breakfast was had at the counter (that''s where the characters are assigned) Too much food so we found a gentleman enjoying the sun from his city corner with whom to share. We then headed to Union Station - now revamped into  a 40's style station . There we had drinks & talks and it was good..Then over to Olvera St (LA's beginnings)

This, along with our previous day's trek to Malibu for an innovative theology conference on Pepperdine's beautiful campus overlooking the ocean, made for a good 2-day adventure.

So fortunate am i to have such a friend & such adventures..In recent times as i was going through a very difficult time, Kyle came. We went to the San Franciscan - another North Star. And my friend listened and thoughtfully encouraged me as he'd done for 37 years - it was so refreshing - cool waters & fresh breezes restoring my soul.

Thanks Kyle for being a genuine kingdom partner -a risk-taking adventurer - showing me what Kingdom folks look like. But most of all thanks or being my friend.

Wisdom Crying Aloud from the Seats #3

Sometimes the sermon is not the Sermon

I had my sermon all prepared last Sunday, It was time for the offering and we were nearly headed for the bank when something travelled beneath my arms which were holding the offering baskets. A young man with blonde hair came earnestly up the aisle under my arm stopping in front of the basket. He stretched out his hand and i realized he wanted to put something in the basket. He then dropped in a nickel & 4 pennies - one by one so thoughtfully. Then reminded of the woman with 2 coins and Jesus' affirmation of her as an authentic giver - I saw our little Sermon run back down the aisle. Once again, Wisdom was crying aloud from the seats.

Wisdom Crying Aloud from the Seats #2

  1. Last week I had the pleasure of reuniting with 2 friends from 40+ years ago, Sheila & Robin. They made the trek out to PV for a Captain's Wheel Sunday. 5 min before the service I got a text from my son- our worship leader - he was real sick & couldn't come.

  2. i started to stress, when I saw her hand, Robin had sensed God nudging her to help (she tried to ignore it but had sheila nudging too). I forgot Robin could sing & sing she did - with power & grace. Seems God had known our need before I did - and had it all covered- reminding me of who he is - & wisdom crying aloud from the seats.

Wisdom Crying Aloud in the Streets #1

Sometimes, Wisdom seems like wifi: all around me - just waiting to be accessed. Here's some examples:

1. I've wanted a black 3-speed English for several years- God knows why. On the way home the other day, out of the corner of my eye (could it be?) - yes! & For Sale - 1962 and reasonably priced. So Mr Toad road his new toy home, and every day thereafter - for 1 week. Then, while going to the mail box. a truck stopped in front of me and a car zoomed past my side, thus pushing me toward the curb whereupon i was launched - landing on the cement, hearing my rib pop - unable to get up. There I thought, "Kids bounce - old guys break" - wisdom obvious to my 2 sons whom I now provided with another Dad story for family lore - and most other folks. But it took wisdom ,- literally crying in the streets (only i was doing most of the crying) to teach me her lesson - which now, as I terrorize the neighborhood on my !962 3-speed English racer, i have seemed to forgotten - but the pains of old bones serve as a reminder,
